For 14 years your specialist in bleaching teeth

F.A.Q. General questions

Do you have to pay for the consultation?
No, the consultation is free and without obligation. Before you undergo treatment, it is very likely you first want to see the expected result on the dental colour chart and listen to our advice regarding restorations such as crowns, fillings and veneers in the front teeth. We can examine the possibilities for you personally and advice on solutions for complicated cases.

Which food and beverages are bad for your teeth?
There is a distinction between things, which are unhealthy for your teeth and which can discolour your teeth. Food and beverages that are unhealthy for your teeth contain a lot of sugars or are acidic, which softens the tooth enamel. Daily, almost everything you eat and drink discolours your teeth to a certain extent. However, some products colour your teeth much more than others. Smoking discolours teeth the most, followed by such things as coffee, tea, red wine, cola, tomato sauce and beetroot. The things that give the worst stains on a white sheet will also discolour your teeth the most.

Can you eat and drink everything after a treatment?
We advise you not to eat or drink anything, except for water in the first two to three hours following the treatment and definitely refrain from smoking. After these hours, you may eat and drink anything except for food and beverages containing a high level of colourings. The next morning, you may eat and drink everything as normal and, if necessary, smoke again.

Will your teeth discolour more quickly after the treatment than prior to the treatment?
During the treatment, all the preceding years’ discolouration of your teeth will be removed. The structure of the teeth will not altered be in any way. This means that your teeth will not absorb discolouration more quickly than prior to the treatment.

How long will your teeth stay white after the treatment?
On average, the result of our whitening treatments will be preserved for one to two years. This depends on your consumption habits and maintenance regime. After this period, the results will gradually decrease.

What can you do after the treatment to keep your teeth white?
It is important for you to take care of your teeth by brushing well and regularly remove dental plaques at your dentist or mouth hygienist. In addition, you could keep your teeth white by brushing with a good whitening toothpaste – and we do not mean toothpastes which only contain a polishing agent, as sold by most supermarkets, but a toothpaste which contains carbamide peroxide. This will immediately remove new discolouration from your teeth. The White Smile Company® recommends Pearl White, which is significantly more expensive than other whitening toothpastes. However, it is very effective and safe for your teeth. Ask for the Pearl White toothpaste at our reception.

Can you repeat the whitening treatment after a certain period?
Because a treatment at The White Smile Company® is not harmful and changes nothing permanently to the structure of your teeth, you may repeat the treatment as often as you wish. In theory, you could do this with ease several times per year. However, it is only necessary if your teeth are affected by new discolouration. If you wish to preserve optimal result, we advise you to repeat the treatment once every one to two years, depending on your consumption habits and maintenance regime.

Are there any other methods available to make your teeth whiter?
The treatment as we apply it, gives the best result for each set of teeth. Broadly speaking, this treatment is used by specialists across the world. Due to our years of experience in this business, we have perfected our techniques and are the most advanced in the world in achieving the best results. We know that our customers want to have the best result, in a safe, comfortable way and for the lowest price. Our treatment guarantees this for everyone. That is why you do not need different treatments or alternative home-bleaching methods.

Questions about the treatments

Do you need to consider anything prior to the treatment?
No, you do not need to consider anything prior to the treatment. You may eat and drink everything as usual. It is sensible to eat well prior to treatment, because this is not possible for the first few hours after treatment.

How is the treatment performed?
Prior to treatment, you will be asked to complete a registration form, after which we will examine your teeth. If you wish to undergo treatment after this consultation, your lips will first be covered with a protective gel and a dental mouth prop will be used to gently separate your lips from your teeth. Next, we will give your teeth a preliminary treatment and then apply the whitening gel. Subsequently, the plasma lamp will be focused on your teeth and every fifteen minutes (V.I.P.) or twenty minutes (Basic, Intensive or Premium) the whitening gel will be retouched or replaced. In the meantime, you can relax and watch TV. After treatment, we need just a few more minutes to remove the whitening gel from your teeth and then you can immediately view the result in the mirror.

How long does a treatment take?
We offer four different treatments. The Basic treatment takes about 45 minutes, the Intensive one hour, the Premium one and a half hours and the V.I.P. two hours. With the Premium and V.I.P. treatment, we always conduct a consultation beforehand, in which we examine your teeth and estimate the result you can expect to achieve. After the treatment, we will look at the result together with you.

Do you need to lie with your mouth open for one and a half hours?
During the treatment, we will insert a dental mouth prop in your mouth to separate your lips from your teeth. It is not meant to hold the jaws open and does not feel as though an impression is being made. We advise you to relax the upper and lower jaws during treatment and know from experience that most people can manage this. If you are still anxious about the dental mouth prop, it is possible to try it out first very carefully, so you can experience how it feels before we start the treatment.

Does the treatment hurt?
With various teeth-bleaching methods, sensitivity can sometimes occur. At The White Smile Company®, we rule this out by working with whitening gels without hydrogen peroxide. However, during the treatment, we need to blow dry the teeth with air. For people with seriously exposed tooth necks, this can cause some sensitivity, which will lasts only a few seconds and will be announced beforehand.

Is one treatment sufficient?
Yes, one treatment is always sufficient to achieve the maximum possible result for your teeth. Even with stubborn discolouration, for example caused by tetracycline, the treatment is so effective that discolorations will be removed in one treatment. After one treatment, your natural teeth cannot become lighter in colour. This means that there is no point in having a second treatment within a short period, even using a different bleaching method.

Questions about the results

How white can my teeth get?
This depends on the thickness of the dentine in combination with the thickness of the enamel, which is different for everyone. With a home-bleaching method from the dentist, you will achieve around 30 to 40 per cent of the maximum result. With plasma lamp bleaching, this is usually around 70 per cent. Because we give your teeth a preliminary treatment at The White Smile Company®, in one treatment we will achieve between 90 and 95 per cent of this maximum achievable result. Your natural teeth cannot get whiter after this. Prior to every treatment, we indicate as accurate as possible what your result will be after the treatment. You can then decide whether you consider the result to be white enough to undergo the treatment.

Questions about the payment

How much does a complete treatment cost?
We offer four different treatments with special offers (only this month!). The Basic treatment now only costs €59, the Intensive €89, the Premium €129 and the V.I.P. €179. These are all-inclusive prices with no additional costs.

What payment methods do we accept?
Payment is requested immediately after the treatment. It is possible to pay by cash, debit or credit card. You will immediately receive your invoice, which you could submit to your insurance company.

Is it possible to have the treatment reimbursed through your insurance?
In general, a teeth whitening treatment is considered as an aesthetic treatment by insurance companies and is, therefore, not always reimbursed. However, some companies do reimburse our treatment, if you have an extensive (dental) package. If you would like to know whether your insurance company would (partially) reimburse the treatment, you should contact it for more information. We advise you to submit the invoice in any case if you have had a treatment. Your insurance company will make its own decision.

Can you get discount if you bring more customers to The White Smile Company®?
Because we charge an extremely low fee with small margins, we cannot afford to offer discount, even if you take along several people at once. In spite of this, we are convinced that only at The White Smile Company® you will pay the lowest price for a professional treatment.

Practical questions

Are there any waiting lists?
Obviously, we try to reduce waiting times as much as possible. However, it is sensible to book your appointment at least one week in advance so we can plan your appointment at a time and date that is favourable to you. If you are, for example, in a hurry and you would like to undergo treatment the following or the same day, then we are unfortunately unable to guarantee this because we are often fully booked. Of course, we always do our utmost to make this possible for you.
